Upgraded my carry load

I went from a normal factory loaded Remington 230 gr. Golden Saber JHP to a Hornady 230 gr. XTP JHP +P factory load.

I like the Golden Saber and have heard great things about the XTP. The only thing that sucks is that my 2 magazines carry 12 rounds a piece with one in the pipe making for a total of 25 rounds, but the box of Hornadys only came 20 to a box :no_ma:

I carry the 200Gr Hornady +P's for now.
They seem to have good numbers- advertised at least...
I think next time I go to buy PP rounds I'm gonna get the Speer +P Gold Dots...

So put 5 Golden Sabres in the bottom of the 2nd mag.
I looking over the various stopping power charts, Golden Sabres are right up there with the best. I wouldn't hesitate to use them exclusivly.

Two things I can think of. First, buy as much ammo as you can afford (good investment as well). You should have a minimum of a couple hundred rounds per pea shooter since you never know when you will be able to resupply. Many sources will be shut down during times of crisis. I like 500 rounds per. The second thing is that you may want to stick to one type of ammo for SD purposes. If you are forced to use your shooter in a SD situation, things will be confusing/complicated enough in the aftermath to have to explain why you used multiple types of bullets.

In my carry piece are run of the mill, 38 special, round nose bullets. They work for me and they're cheap. But I know how to shoot and practice at least 3 times a week. Can you pull your firearm and hit a tennis ball at ten feet without aiming? You need to be able to do this. Shot placement is everything. No amount of fancy loads will make up for poor marksmanship.

Agreed. I wish I could find more time to go to the range though. Me and my wife go like once a month.

If you live in the city (I don't) do you have a basement? Turn up the stereo and blast away. It's not too hard to build a backstop/bullet trap in the basement.

I wish I could but we dont have basements in S. Florida so the only place I could go is to a range.

Golden sabers are ok. They expand reasonably well but tend to loose their jackets a lot, the "bore-riding" design makes them pretty accurate though.
The new Bonded Golden Sabers are supposed to fix the jacket separating issue.

I like the Golden Sabers in .380 since they are the heaviest available (102 grain) otherwise I stick with rounds that pass the FBI/IWBA criterion:

Gold Dots
Win Ranger-T
Fed HST

For the .45 any of the above in 230 grain will do.
